Rubén is a queer Mexican immigrant who grew up undocumented on Chicago’s South Side.

Now, like any other full-fledged U.S. citizen, he’s monetizing his trauma through comedy writing—while still holding a grudge against the country’s broken immigration system, something his therapist insists is “unproductive.”

He is an alum of the Writers' Access Support Staff Training Program through the Writers Guild Foundation (WGF), the NHMC Series Scriptwriters Program, and Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Mentorship Lab. He also hosts La Lista: A Latinx Writers Podcast, an interview series spotlighting underrepresented voices in entertainment.

Rubén is currently based in Los Angeles.
