Rubén is a queer, formerly undocumented, Mexican immigrant raised on the South Side of Chicago.

Now, like any other full-fledged U.S. citizen, he’s monetizing his trauma through writing while still holding a grudge against our country’s broken immigration system—something his therapist insists is “unproductive.”

His heartfelt and comedic storytelling explores themes of found families, self-discovery, and outsiders creating a home in unfamiliar worlds. 

He is an alum of the NHMC Series Scriptwriters Program, the Outfest Screenwriting Lab, and Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Mentorship Lab. He also hosts La Lista: A Latinx Writers Podcast, spotlighting Latinx voices in entertainment.

He is currently based in Los Angeles.
